Free Software Day

I thought the Free Software day was very good, even for this old slow learner.

I feel a little embarrassed by my "demo" as by the time I got around to it I was the student trying to teach the professors.

The day showed me, very much, how much I do not know about the use of Linux programs. I am learning though, slowly, but learning.

All in all a great day and Matthew and his lovely wife should be really pleased with themeselves.

we filled the venue

So much was achieved.  For starters, we have to be happy to have filled our venue and the Software Freedom Day message was well received. The day went so quickly and it was just packed with stuff.  It was great how David brought in the OpenPC Labs internet cafe for us to use.

What I liked most was being able to touch base with people that i hadn't yet met in person.  And indymedia, this looks like it could be a lot of fun to participate with.  I was telling my dad, who also runs gnu/linux, and he was thinking it could be interesting to post a few shots and stories from his constant trips around the country.  Community journalism. hmmm.

Didn't Hugh do a great job with the presentation of the new xgl desktops. That was great to see.  It feels like I have been reading about it for ages but I have not had the hardware to run it.  Now that I have seen it I can see that xgl desktops are not just some cool graphics but they could actually develop visual to help people conceptualise their spaces more easily.  i don't know . . . i think there is something there really worth thinking about.

i can't wait for next year.
