I expect there are a fair few of you who have bought one of those cheap MP3 players from The Good Guys or WOW. I know I have one which cost me about 30 bucks and plays half an hour of audio which gets me to work and back on my bicycle.
I've never been very happy with it but I am way too tight fisted to spend money on anything better. So I regularly read up on how to build my own using some of the many DIY MP3 player kits out there. Unfortunately I am not very good with a soldering iron and tend to confuse amps and volts. What I would really like to find is a guide explaining how to build an OGG Music Player using a tic-tac box, 1 foot of copper wire and some chewing gum. Let me know if you stumble across anything like that.
In the mean time I may have found a fun way to tinker with and probably break my $30 mp3 player,
http://www.s1mp3.org/ - the place to get public domain firmware for my cheap chinese mp3 player.
I'll let you know how I go...
