Help! Help! I have purchased a HPC5280 printer and cannot get the following. A Scan program for scan to computer, a Disc Labeler Program. I asked at the retail outlet and was assured that it would work with Linux, and it does as a printer but that is all.
I am willing to pay some resonable amount if you can sort things out for me. 0266516821
I use the last version, not latest, Ubuntu.
XSane, OpenOffice.org Templates
If you were using a scanner before you got this latest machine, you should already have working scanning software: XSane. If not, in 'Add/Remove Applications', you should find "XSane Image Scanner" at the bottom of the "Graphics" list. You can use XSane as a stand-alone program (under Applications -> Graphics), but most often I use it via the GIMP, where it's launched from File -> Acquire, so that I can resize and tidy up the scanned image. Some other applications are integrated with XSane the same way. Back when I was still using Windows occassionally, I used to find that XSane was vastly superior to the scanning software bundled with the hadware on CD for Windows.
OpenOffice.org comes with a bunch of templates for various kinds of labels, including CD labels. From the Word Processor go to File -> New -> Labels, and you'll get drop down lists of label manufacturers and types to choose from. I've never done this sort of thing, but I understand Avery is the Microsoft of labels, and I think I've seen label packs from cheaper brands marked with the Avery label type they are compatible with. You might also be able to find other CD label templates on the web (eg. http://documentation.openoffice.org/Samples_Templates/User/template/index.html).
