Is this a good forum to talk about advocacy? What links are out there on good advocacy and what challenges have other groups experienced in the past when representing Free Software at functions?
I think the increase in use of free software has to happen naturally. The Free Software Foundation's concept seems to be quite different from my (and Linus Torvald's) concept.
We probably cannot agree even on what we should be advocating, let alone on which particular operating system or other software to support. Debian's stand on Mozilla trademarks and Java (possibly different now), for example, put Debian out of contention for me.
The horrendous hardware requirements of Vista may give impetus to the move away from M$. People generally, it seems to me, are motivated by self-interest more than philosophy. They will use rechargeable batteries if it suits their economic interests, not because of environmental concerns; likewise alternative fuels.
